Banta Feeds was founded in February 2009 after many newspaper articles were publicizing how local food pantry donations were down, but pantries were gaining many more clients in need. Banta Feeds is founded on the idea that “Alone we have a pebble, but together we can build mountains.” Christine Hisick, founding organizer of Banta Feeds, began a neighborhood food drive two days after reading those newspaper articles. The food drive was started in the Banta neighborhood in Valparaiso, and given the name Banta Feeds Food Drive because it was being performed in that area.
